I believe they should because it allows them to build a closer relationship between their companies brand and the consumers. A blog like this fosters a conversation, building stronger bonds between the consumers and the marketer all at the same time.

@David - I think it can be good if you don't do it consistently. It would hurt your brand if you are known as the person making all the mistakes. Admitting mistakes and then explaining what you learned in the process is the way to go. :)

Dan - Obviously making and learning from mistakes is a good thing...what do you think about blogging about mistakes made?

@Dave - Thanks and yes I agree making mistakes is a good thing. The more you make when your younger the better off you will be when your older.

@Steve - Glad you enjoyed it.

I completely agree... and your quote from Jackie Huba says it all... "There is no reason for a company not to leverage this channel to build credibility, loyalty and add humanity."

Congrats on the opportunity with TheLadders...or should I say congrats to the readers! I think your writing is relevant to anyone who wants to compete...that is why you are the only Personal Brand RSS feed in that category on my forum:
http://www.yourbrandplan.com/forum/personal-brand-career-strategy/

On topic, I agree no surprise. I would extend your advice to other disciplines as well for external as well as internal culture - see one of my first post on my forum around an Inc Mag article:
http://www.yourbrandplan.com/forum/leadership-brand/296-communicating-mistakes-add-value.html
What do you think, Dan?

There is a song on the radio right now by Lupe Fiasco which Gen Y loves. It's all about promoting yourself. I thought that most blogs were also 'staged'. Until I read Penolope Trunck's blog about were divorce. That showed candor.
