What is more important in the workplace: project or people.
I answered "definitely projects".

But, Stuart, it does not mean "it's all about projects".
People are important, but, if you think about it, you would put up with "sub-optimal" co-workers if the project is good enough - just think about the Manhattan project ;) - but no matter how fun the co-workers are if the project is booooooring you will want to change.

But, just to extend on the train of thoughts:
people are a part of the project. They are not beside the project, they are not separate from the project, people are one significant part of the project along with a lot of things.

Good point Dan ... but then there is a strong correlation between successful companies and thoses who are considered great employers - queue Google - so I'd say let's not completely abandon the office for a virtual workplace.

Like books, sometimes the reality is preferred to the virtual.

Dan,
Interesting look at people vs. projects, but if it's all about projects, why don't we all become contractors? Technology can help with remote workforce and distance learning, but knowledge workers can always learn a lot from peers and the mobile/cloud/SL tools are very far away from being able to bridge this gap. I guess I vote for a balance between projects and people. I'm in favor of flexibility in working remotely, but many jobs and many people are not suited for being remote.
