Dan -

I take a lot of pictures and so I have run out of space on 3 computers in our home.
You mention the best buy My Book by Western Digital - my local store is having a sale on the 500 gig version - only 99 bucks!
More storage then all my computers combined - for 100 bucks - great deal. So far so good - no tech issues - just drag and drop.

Nice post Dan. Here are a few supplemental items:

Many people who use Google Docs may wonder how to go about downloading all of the documents/spreadsheets/presentations they have there to their local hard drive. I'd recommend using Down Them All Firefox add on because it allows you to download a bunch of files at a time. There are other tools (i.e. Docs Syncer), but Down Them All is nice for a simple and quick way to get all the wanted files downloaded. (Side note: Utilize Gears and turn that on to get a pseudo-backup and offline access)

When using Mozy consider making up your own encryption key, instead of just using the default Mozy generated key. This will ensure only you have access to your data.

Consider encrypting your external hard drives in case it grows legs and walks away.
