As for the career question... I know i'm about 70% more productive when i'm not in a relationship. Of course it's probably easier for the non self-employed.

A good balance is needed in order to be truly happy. I just know that sometimes i have to be on a relationship sabbatical.

Danny, why do you assume that modern romance so frustrating and strange? What are you comparing it to? Was it ever easy?

In fact, it's easier now. Everyone knows that if things don't work out they can get out.

That makes it more challenging. You can't just do what you want expect the other person to put up with it as readily as people did when they were locked in. On the other hand a mistake is not a life sentence.

Tell me, what justification is there for claiming that everything is so different?

I think the people who say it are the people who weren't around before. They just make it up or regurgitate what they see others saying. Then they use the allegedly huge changes as promo for their consulting services.

Watch some old movies and you'll see that it wasn't so different in the 1930s. You didn't get to sleep with him or her unless you got married -- which is huge. But the "Does he like me?" and the "What if she says no?" part, aren't those the exact same?
